Program and Service Priorities
Equip for Equality faces a need for legal advocacy that far exceeds the organization's capacity. The Board of Directors, with input the disability community and the public is, therefore, forced to make difficult decisions about where to put Equip for Equality's limited resources. Priorities have been adopted to guide the organization's decisions in which cases to accept for self-advocacy advice and legal services. Equip for Equality generally pursues cases that:
- Promote the full inclusion of people with disabilities in their communities
- Challenge discrimination and promote compliance with the ADA
- Ensure that individuals receive services and supports in the least restrictive setting that meets their needs, including in public education
- Protect the right to self-determination
- Reduce abuse, neglect, and related deaths of children and adults with disabilities
