The newly launched Latino Advocacy Project is the beneficiary of a $12,000 grant from the Chicago Area Foundation for Legal Services, which is a supporting organization of The Chicago Community Trust.
Expressing appreciation for the grant, President and CEO Zena Naiditch said, "The Trust's support helps us not only by its generous grant but as an indication to other investors about the immense need for bringing advocacy services to Latinos with disabilities and their families. We are grateful that the Trust shares our vision for this Project."
Spearheading the effort to provide outreach to the Latino community is attorney Consuelo Puente, who is Project Manager. She conducts training seminars on special education rights, provides one-on-one special education self-advocacy assistance and represents Latino students with disabilities. One of the goals of the Project is to provide services in satellite offices within the Latino community, an endeavor that at this time is in its early stages. =
