+01: Equip for Equality's Summer Open House is a Success

Equip for Equality hosted its first Summer Open House on June 1st (from 4:30 to 6:30 PM), welcoming members of the community to our Chicago offices to celebrate the launch of the organization's 20th anniversary. This year, Equip for Equality was proud to partner with The Awakenings Project, which exhibited and auctioned off artwork from some of Chicago's most accomplished artists with disabilities. The Awakenings Project assists persons with mental illness in developing and enhancing their creative abilities through art in all its forms, and to raise public awareness of the creative talents and contributions of people living with mental illness.

Additionally, Chicago sommelier Jason Breed conducted a wine tasting demonstration featuring several wines from diverse locations. To tantalize the palate, Sugar River Cheese Co. provided varieties of designer cheeses.

All proceeds from the artwork auction went to the contributing artists and The Awakenings Project.

+02: LaSalle Bank to Offer Improved Services for Persons Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired

LaSalle Bank Corporation subsidiaries LaSalle Bank and Standard Federal Bank announced recently that they have launched several major initiatives intended to provide easier access to their banking services for individuals with visual impairments. These initiatives include the installation of Talking ATMs, a more user-friendly format on the banks' Web sites, and greater accessibility to printed materials. LaSalle Bank Corporation worked with Equip for Equality and others on the plan to convert its entire ATM network over the next three years and to provide other services. Read the press release and settlement agreement today.

+03: Help Us Plan Our Priorities for the Upcoming Year

Equip for Equality is hosting two Public Meetings in July to solicit your input for planning our priorities for the forthcoming year. Each meeting (in Springfield, and Carbondale, IL) presents a unique opportunity for people with disabilities, family members, service providers and other interested parties to participate in this planning process. Refreshments will be served. In years past, it has been very exciting to hear your comments and suggestions that have helped to effect systemic change in Illinois. Visit the planning meetings page today to learn more. We also encourage you to submit your comments online.

+04: Help Us Advance the Human and Civil Rights of People with Disabilities in Illinois

Gifts to Equip for Equality support our various services for people with disabilities. Now in our 20th year, we have provided tens of thousands of individuals in Illinois relief from discrimination, segregation, abuse, inappropriate healthcare, education and housing. Your contribution makes a real difference to people who need it the most. Donate online with your Visa, Mastercard, or American Express card, send a check, or phone in your credit card information.
