What is TBI?
Definition of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
To be eligible for services under the TBI Protection and Advocacy grant, clients must have a traumatic brain injury as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC defines a traumatic brain injury as "...an injury to the brain caused by the head being hit by something or shaken violently. This injury can change how the person acts, moves and thinks. The term traumatic brain injury is used for head injuries that can cause changes in one or more areas, such as: thinking and reasoning, understanding words, remembering things, paying attention, solving problems, thinking abstractly, talking, behaving, walking and other physical activities, seeing and/or hearing, and learning. (The term traumatic brain injury is not used for brain injuries that happen during birth.)"
People with brain injuries outside the definition are still eligible for Equip for Equality's services under other funding.
