Abusive guardian removed

A young man who is deaf wanted help leaving his abusive home. His mother had become his guardian when he turned 18 simply because of his deafness and reading level.  The guardian was emotionally abusive and misused her son’s Social Security money.  She didn’t let the young man attend school or work outside the home, and she isolated him from peers.  The doctor who supported the guardianship never communicated with the young man before recommending that his mother become guardian.  We went to court and were appointed independent counsel to represent the young man.  We had the mother removed as guardian and the young man’s right to independence was fully restored.
