Equip for Equality Hosts the Disability Rights Consortium Meeting

Date:  Wednesday, November 29, 2023

Time:  9:30am-11:00am (Central Time)

REGISTRATION REQUIRED – REGISTER HERE *

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Speaker:  Tauna Szymanski, the Executive Director and Legal Director of CommunicationFIRST

Topic:  The next meeting of the Disability Rights Consortium will welcome Tauna Szymanski, the Executive Director and Legal Director of CommunicationFIRST, the only civil rights organization led by and for and dedicated to protecting and advancing the rights and interests of the estimated 5 million people in the United States who cannot rely on speech alone to be heard and understood. Tauna will provide legal, advocacy, and practical tips for advocates and lawyers who represent clients with significant speech-related disabilities who need or use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Importantly, she is interested in answering any questions you have about advocating for and representing individuals who do not rely primarily on speech to communicate. Email your questions ahead of time to Tauna so that you can reach out to her directly with questions. If you prefer to submit a question anonymously, you can do so by sending a text or voice note to 312-566-0249 and I will pass it along. Tauna assures me no question is too basic or will offend her—she wants to serve as a resource to our community.

CLE Hours:  1.5 hours

Accommodations:  Real time captions (CART) and ASL interpretation will be provided. Materials and a session outline will be circulated in advance. Additional requests for accommodations can be sent to Lauren Schrero at laurenschrero@equipforequality.org by November 22.
