The U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote Thursday, 2-15-18 on H.R. 620, a bill that will seriously erode and diminish the rights of people with disabilities to full and equal access to public accommodations as guaranteed by Title III of the ADA. Businesses have already had more than 27 years to bring their establishments into compliance with the ADA. H.R. 620 will require people with disabilities to give businesses notice of ADA violations and grant businesses an indefinite period of time to cure those violations BEFORE they can proceed to enforce their rights under the ADA. No other civil rights law imposes such a requirement! If passed, H.R. 620 will create an unjust and indefensible distinction between the civil rights of people with disabilities and the civil rights of other protected classes of people. Don’t let Congress roll back the long-standing rights of people with disabilities to participate fully in community life. Call your Representative in Congress TODAY to let him or her know you—a constituent—oppose this harmful piece of legislation and urge them to vote “No” on H.R. 620 when it comes to the floor for a vote.
